  • Comfortable with pets

I've been caring for children, in-home & for the school district, for 15 years. I'm trained in ABA, and can work through behaviors; in addition to establish a sleep schedule, do tearless potty training, and expand palates so peas & carrot juice are a matter of course. I believe in positive reinforcement, choices, and clear communication. I like to keep an open dialogue with parent so we can be on the same page and work together on your child's journey. My approach is structured but spontaneous. I take them out into the world and guide them through events and challenges as they occur, equipping them with skills to navigate all the stuff life can throw at them, from moving cars, to barking dogs, to park interactions. We practice our self-care skills in an integrated routine (shoes on; teeth brushed; pour our milk into our cereal, slowly), and manage fears and Read more anxieties, before they come up. Of course, there are expectations - sandals are not available today because it's raining - but we can wear the pink sparkly boots you love. We feel out and talk through, with eyes, ears, and hearts open; by using our words and keeping an open mind, we make our way. The focus is not on what's wrong; but rather, what can we do to make it better? My attention is individualized. I take into consideration where each child is at developmentally, and focus on strengths. I don't focus on what's not; but what is, and how that can be adapted for actualizing a better experience. I set up for success. We are out-and-about most of the time. We go on many excursions: to the zoo, the art museum (after which we'll make our own art!), the refuge to listen to the birds, the park. We'll play croquet, investigate dew drops and lady bugs on the plant leaves, read books, and enjoy frequent picnics; with bread & cheese, and the most beautiful fruit we picked up from the farmer's market on our morning walk. Let's feel the smoothness of those apples in our hands; count them as we put them in our basket. One, two, red, red, green. Explore color, shape, sensation. How does lavender smell? Wet sand between our toes. Let's go down to the florist for an impromptu lesson & build a bouquet all our own. Curious about how a plant grows? We'll plant a little garden, observe/discuss, and make a salad with the tomatoes we grew. I'm about contriving opportunities & crafting experiences, guiding as they explore.

Just met Alexandra as she took care of my 4mo twin boys for the first day, she came across as professional and knowledgeable about baby care and scheduling. She is also very respectful of the babies' grandparents at home. I hope to continue working with her.
