Hello, My name is Mellissa and I have been nannying for a wonderful family with 3 children in Mill Valley for the past 1.5 years. Their youngest is entering a full day of preschool in mid-August, at which point I will be available to begin with a new family. You are welcome to contact the mother, Amanda, at (415) 260-7654 as a reference. Prior to nannying, I taught preschool in a Montessori school in the Inner Richmond for 3.5 years, first as an assistant teacher and then as a teacher in the Extended Day program. I also have a Master's degree in Psychology and one of the reasons I transitioned from teaching to nannying is because I aspire to return to school to pursue licensure as an MFT. I am hoping to find a family who is supportive of this endeavor. With the children I currently nanny (ages 3,5, and Read more 8), we engage in many enriching activities including art projects, exploring the creek behind their home, visiting the local library, adventuring in the redwoods, creating art using found materials in nature, jumping on the trampoline, going to the park, playdates, and reading together. What I have found most meaningful in my work with children is serving as a consistent, kind, and gentle caregiver who truly listens to them and respects their expression and needs. It has been deeply fulfilling to support their social-emotional development which, in the classroom environment, has looked like guiding them in resolving conflicts with their peers at the "peace table" and comforting them through challenging emotions. I also enjoy reading with children, leading movement songs, and encouraging them to develop a connection with nature. I also enjoy fostering their own innate interests. For example, my 5-year-old girl showed interest in Greek Mythology and we have gone to the library to explore books about mythology together. I have also bought her age-appropriate books on the subject. As an avid reader myself, I love finding books that are well-suited to children's development, curiosities, and interests. I am seeking a long-term connection with a family and it is important to me that the relationship(s) formed are able to continue after the official position ends. Prior to teaching preschool-aged children, I taught middle school enrichment programs and worked as a lead writing tutor at my university's writing center. I also have a BA in English with an emphasis in Education. I look forward to getting to know you and your children.
