My name is Autumn McMullen I am currently a senior in college pursuing an Inclusive Elementary Education degree at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and a lover of all children. I am currently student teaching full time in a 3rd grade math class. At the age of 13 I took a babysitter certification course and a CPR/AED/First Aid for adults, children, and infants course through the Red Cross. Every two years since then I have renewed my CPR/First Aid/AED certification. Starting at 13 I began babysitting my little brother who was 7 and other neighborhood kids. From there at the age of 18 I began working for a company called College Nannies Sitters + Tutors. I worked with them anywhere between 15 and 35 hours a week while being a full time freshman student. I nannied consistently for two families one had a 6 year old boy, the Read more other family had a 1.5 year old boy and 3.5 year old girl. While working with them I also babysat other families, ranging from 1 child at a time up to 5 at one time. The children I have babysat range from 8 months to 12 years old. The summer following my freshman year I worked at an overnight YMCA summer camp full time. I mostly worked in the youngest female cabin which was 7-9 year olds, but worked in all of the female cabins ranging up to 12 year olds. At summer camp I belayed rock climbing, lead canoeing, as well as lead arts and crafts and drama. While at camp I learned many songs, and games to do with children of varying ages. Once my sophomore year began I started working at the Child Development Center at UCCS. I have worked in all of the classrooms from one year olds to five year olds, but spend most of my time in the 3-4 year old classroom. During this time I also worked at CNS+T occasionally babysitting families on the weekends. I became a caregiver because I love children and have a passion for seeing their growth and development. I love my job because children bring light into the lives of all the people around them and I love to be apart of the growth of their light. I find myself good at my job because I am patient, compassionate, and a good listener. I find that all of these qualities are important for both taking care of children, but also make parents feel reassured that I am second best to only them.
