As a Nanny and mother of a two year old, I have personal experience taking care of children ranging from infants to adolescents. After graduating from college with a B.A. in English and Fine Art, I gave birth to my daughter, Madeline, and gained experience working at a non-profit, hands-on, interactive children's museum as a Grant Writer for the museum's educational programs. I simultaneously created colorful, whimsical paintings for my children's book illustrations portfolio, created art commissions for clients and made hand-sewn felt play food for children’s play kitchens. I am a creative, energetic and reliable mother and caregiver and encourage daily creative activities where children can freely express themselves through painting, drawing, sculpting and other art-related activities. I also incorporate baby/toddler yoga into my daily routine as a means of introducing at a young age the enhancement of flexibility, the refinement of balance and coordination and the inner calm Read more that arrives with the connection of mind and body. My child care philosophy is based upon the idea that children thrive in a warm, colorful environment filled with artwork and music; a nurturing safe-haven that focuses primarily on self expression through the arts and in a place that is surrounded by nature and imaginative play. I acknowledge the importance of social interaction between children, as frequently as possible and beginning at a young age, to encourage strong social skills, develop empathy, learn the benefits of sharing, cultivate the ability to work together with others and make new friends. For these reasons, I find it rewarding for everyone involved when I bring my own toddler, Madeline, with me to a care giving position. I also believe the theory that children spend the first seven years of their lives imitating the individuals around them; due to this, it is essential to encourage a safe environment where children can freely mimic creative activities such as baking, painting and gardening by having access to play kitchens, designated art areas and access to nature and the outdoors. By utilizing nature itself as an educational tool, such as bringing found, natural objects indoors and spending time outside, children have the opportunity to feel a oneness with their environment and feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves. When weather permits, I love to bring the children outdoors to play.
