I have been a nanny for 27 years and a mom for 14 years. My experience as nanny helped prepare me for motherhood. Motherhood, has helped increase my ability to connect and understand the families I care for. I have cared for four sets of twins in my career. Early in my care giving career, I cared for a set of premature twins that required time in the NICU before coming home. I was in awe of the faith, strength and courage of this mom who also had three other children requiring her love and attention. I began my time with this family the day after mom came home. I admire the grace and patience she was able to extend to me as we got to know each other and work together. To this day, I owe her a great deal to the woman, mother and caregiver I have become.
