While my work with children began much earlier, I started to seriously consider and pursue a career with children after graduating from university in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic. I returned home to heightened child care demand and began my first nannying position. Connecting with stressed parents and seeing first-hand the detrimental effects of the pandemic on children and schools showed me the critical importance of quality education and childcare for every child. I was blessed to grow up with incredible care-takers and feel a call to provide that same compassionate care and support that I was given. During the pandemic I worked primarily for two private families. The first family had a one year old daughter who I cared for. The second family had two early elementary school children and I cared for them and assisted with their online schooling.I worked to engage these children with their Read more school work and to ensure that they kept up with their classes. While I prioritized education in this position, I also improved my natural skill in imaginary play. I take pride in my ability to be high energy and engaging across multiple areas with children. I believe engaging with their imaginations and playful sides is just as important as supporting their schoolwork. In this job and every position since, I have developed a great ability to quickly transition from high energy play to focused educational work. I thoroughly enjoyed these nannying positions but after the pandemic improved, I wished for an adventure and a new challenge. I decided to take a position as an au pair in Madrid, Spain in September 2021. Here, I spent my time caring for a four year old boy and supporting his education in the English language. Next, to continue diving into my curiosity in education and child development, I decided to try working in a school with a specific education philosophy. I had come across Montessori and desired to see first hand how it worked. I started at Aidan Montessori School in Washington, DC in August 2022 and have learned so much in my time here. The school offered me a position for the 2023/2024 school year, and while I have loved my time here, I have decided to move on and return to working for private families. I find that I prefer working one on one or with small groups with children. It is here where my skills shine. The variety of child care contexts that I have worked in have given me a unique character and ability to care for children
