Hi Catherine, thank you for considering my application. I appreciate your concern to raise your two young children to love the outdoors. Studies have shown the strong links between outdoor play and children's development. An opinion piece on Informal Science website stated that spontaneous outdoor play offers "unrivaled opportunities for early learners to classify, observe, explore, and interpret the phenomena around them." Studies sometimes tell us the obvious: our children need the wide outdoors to develop their bodies and minds. I'm a mom to four children, Ryan, Amy, Spencer and Maggie, who are 22, 21, 17, and 15, respectively. When they were young, I stayed home with them and built cereal box towers, made cookies, glued paper crafts, read books (Eric Carle is a favorite), and made simple terrariums for our visiting insect-friends.
