• Comfortable with pets

I started taking care of children accidently. I find that I naturally be towards "mothering" and at 14 I noticed all these young kids (3-6 yo) running around my high school outdoor bleachers. Not knowing who their parents were or if they were even within sight, I quickly ended up with a haggle of children in my care. At the end of the night, a couple of teachers approached me about babysitting and that is how it all started. I have since taken care of everything between infants to teenagers. Some families I have worked with so long that I've seen their kids go from 5 year olds to 18 year olds about to graduate. I started off with just a couple of hours on date nights, quickly leading to daily after school care which included picking up from school or bus stops, helping with homework and preparing snacks and Read more dinner. I have stayed with kids for weeks at a time while parents are on vacation. I took care of household chores and pets as well as the kiddos, made sure any and all medications are taken according to instruction and handling any homesickness the kids might feel for their parents. I have worked a lot of, what my parents would call, " real " jobs and although I have excelled, I find that I still enjoy being around children most and would like to make a living doing something I actually like and that feels rewarding. I feel very fiercely about childcare and naturally do it, even when "off the clock" which we all know is NOT a thing when it comes to kids. I have saved about 4 or 5 kids from drowning at birthday parties that I was a guest at because I know that just being in the vicinity is not enough. I was aware and quick to act. Some of these kids weren't even noticed until I had them out of the water and they'd began to cry. I think, as grown ups, we are responsible for not just our own but all kids safety. They have an innate trust in us to comfort and protect them and we owe it to them to make sure they are cared for.
