I am a very active 51 yr old. My kids are grown and if I do say so myself, turned out beautifully. šŸ˜Š I enjoy young kids even more now than I did in my 20ā€™s. We all know we must have a good bit of patience as they all are growing into their own little personalities. To that end, I canā€™t say Iā€™ve ever been an employed nanny. Iā€™ve been a wife and mother of two children with severe cases of ADHD. Patience was a must. I remember the angst and tears I went through when I had to leave my children at daycare. I cried often. Would they receive the same loving care I gave them? Probably not. Would anyone dare to lay a hand on them? I always feared that. Sometimes that fear alone would keep me up at night. I just wanted them to be safe Read more and feel loved. I think thatā€™s every parents hope. Now, theyā€™re grown and Iā€™ve been through a divorce that brought me from California to Florida in 2013. So while Iā€™ve been looking around for a different line of work (I was Ubering but hated to sit still for so long) I noticed that this appealed to me more and more. Itā€™s slightly more flexible than a full time office job and kids are so much more enjoyable than adults sometimes. Lol. My background in California was working for the City of Los Angeles/ Department off Water and Power (as did almost my entire family- grandparents, mother, father, sister and ex-husband) for 19 years as a timekeeper/Sr, Clerk Typist. My families claim-to-fame is that my uncle was in the Secret Service and was Ronald Reaganā€™s personal bodyguard. Lol. Yes, the entire family went through a very serious background check for that detail. Iā€™ve worked in Pensacola for 3 years at a roofing company and 3 years at an HVAC company, then as a driver. Iā€™ve been home for some time now and have loved being outside doing the yard work, playing with the dogs and keeping the house up. Lost 30 pounds doing that, so Iā€™d hate to go back to being sedentary again as Iā€™m in the best shape nowadays. Children are a sure bet to keep you on your toes. While working at DWP in Cali, I was CPR & AED Certified. But those carts have run out and I donā€™t mind getting recertified if required. If I had to talk about my downfallsā€¦hmmm, this part is never easy. Lol Iā€™d say Iā€™m less organized than Iā€™d like to be and coming up with ideas for the little ones to keep busy was never my strong suit. My sister used to name things off one after the other and Iā€™d pick a bunch I thought my kids would like. Now, since these kids are not my own, Iā€™m betting on you knowing what your kids like to do and me making them happen. Iā€™m game as long as moms and dads are. Iā€™m also all about raising/disciplining as the parents see fit. I wish I couldā€™ve asked that of my childrenā€™s care givers back when. But just know that I would never spank another personā€™s child. Itā€™s not my place. If itā€™s ā€œtime-outā€™sā€ or ā€œgo to your roomā€ you want, thatā€™s me all day. Iā€™ll leave the rest up to you. I watched (was it called??) Professor Nanny constantly to learn how to discipline my children without ever having to touch them, less the picking up of or directing them towards the time-out area. Even with my rambunctious and patience-testing kids. Iā€™ve been staying healthier and have grown away from the worser of the eating habits so the kids will always have the benefit of eating well. But we all know thatā€™s not their favorite thing, so Iā€™ve usually balanced it with yummy things in between. Lol No one wants celery and carrots for their treats. šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š I have the common sense of a parent. You know, the ones where you always know where the kids are at every moment? Are they outside by the pool? Upstairs, next to the long stairway? Is someone watching them every second during those times? God I hoped so. My husband took his eyes off my son for just a few seconds once and down in the pool he went. Luckily, I did not. Itā€™s ingrained in me. Snatched him out before he even tried to take a breath under water. I know all the parental fears. I figure thatā€™s what qualifies me to be a loving and caring care giver. I donā€™t mind a drink every now and then on the weekend, but I just am not a drinker. Iā€™d rather ice cold water than anything else, ever, really. No drugs at all. Oh, I tried them before, but I like being awake and knowing whatā€™s going on. šŸ˜‚ Iā€™m great in the English department but a ā€œmath-erā€ Iā€™m not. My mother was an English mayor and boy oh boy we had better know how to speak properly. Math was tougher. And honestly, having seen some kids homework nowadays, I donā€™t know what kind of tutoring I could provide, but Iā€™m always happy to help them in their learning if I can. If any of this sounds familiar to you or appeals to you as someone youā€™d want to be caring for your children then we should talk. This is the first time Iā€™ve written out my story. It was weird to write it out and think back, but Thanks for reading my tale.
