I am a career child caregiver with over 6 years of professional experience and a lifetime of practical experience. I often joke that I've been taking care of children since I was a child myself. My education in childcare includes courses in early childhood development, child psychology, and special education. My professional career began in 2015 as a Para and Lead teacher at a school for special needs children, specializing in the autism spectrum. My students were ages 10-21 and their needs varied greatly across their education, personal medical needs, and personalities. In the years since leaving the educational setting I have supported families of all kinds and their children from 1-11 years old. My most recent position was with a family of 2 nuerodivergent children ages 6 and 9. During the school year I provided them with support and supplementary tools during their e-learning through the Covid-19 pandemic. While Read more much of my career has been with nuerodivergent, disabled, and special needs children, I am comfortable with nuerotypical children and students of all ages. I am passionate about childcare because I truly believe all families need more support and care--"it takes a village" as they say. My experience, values, and methods would be best fit in a home where the children are part of their caregiving plan and structure is welcomed but play and fun are prioritized. When working in a home with disabled or nuerodivergent children, my methods and values are centered on the child and their well being, not the extinction of autism, autistic traits and behaviors. I believe that our world ought to make room for more diversity and I take pride in learning about autism, nuerodivergency, disability and care for those populations straight from those communities themselves. I take so much joy and pride in helping families feel more supported, cared for, and loved and I look forward to finding the right fit for my expertise!
