In addition to raising my own daughter and son (both in their mid-20s now), I have cared for the children of friends and family over the years. I believe children thrive on a routine, with built-in quiet time in between activities and an environment of continual learning and new experiences. I love to take children on little "field trips" each day, whether it's to story time at the library, or for a nature walk to look at birds, or for a walk on the beach, or for lunchtime groceries ... whatever works best on a given day. Some days, children are out of sorts and need to just be at home ... and that's when it's fun to play make-believe or snuggle with books or spend time with favorite toys.
