Hi my name is Collette, I am a 60-year old mother of 2 and grandmother of 5. I have extensive experience taking care of children, but that was not the profession I chose. I recall wanting to be a teacher as a child. I really love children. I played "teacher" with a childhood friend all the time. I've had some short-term assignments babysitting for families in the past, but did not go into childcare as a profession. I became a Legal Secretary when I was in my twenties and before you know it, a Patent Assistant, then a Paralegal. I never really enjoyed the work, but the salary was very good. I prefer spending time with a little one reading, playing and marveling at all of their amazing ways--by far! I did not get to stay home with my children when they were little as I was a single parent Read more with my daughter, and when my son was born, my husband was out of work. I take my great nephew sometimes to give my niece a break. He is a 10-month old boy born without hearing. I also have a little buddy that has been coming to my house for sleepovers since he was 2, he is like a grandson to me. He always enjoys the time he spends here and it gives his Mom a free Saturday-Sunday morning. He is turning 8 this year and may be outgrowing me--but I hope not. If you are looking for someone reliable who just lights up around children, that would be me. I am currently in transition and I am seriously considering getting the ECC certification and changing careers. I love being around children, and why not do what you love?
