I recently graduated from Albany State University May 12, 2016 and obtained my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. For the past year and a half I have a worked for an organization with the YMCA by the name of 21st Century Community Learning Center, as a summer and afterschool camp counselor. It is a program that assist students specifically first to fifth grade that struggles in math and reading. The program works collaboratively with school day and afterschool program teachers to develop and deliver a program that meets the needs of children and their families. Also during high school, I attended Buford High School basketball team and we held summer basketball camps for the little girls in the community starting at age of seven. I am also a proud auntie of two nieces and one nephew. I have been watching them since they were born including taking them to Read more and from daycare, feeding them, and helping the oldest who is five years old with her schooling. I love that no single day at work is the same with my kids! As a camp counsellor, I was more than just a tutor that help the students with their homework. I was a mentor and an example for the children, and that’s what made my job special every day. Even though sometimes the underlying difficulties are similar, the mentoring approach for each child is always different for each child. I try not to only focus on the difficulties the child is having, but to focus on the child’s strengths to make them a better person. Knowing that my job is to help kids achieve their full potential and to help them feel happier and better about themselves is always a huge accomplishment for me. I am very determined and a highly motivated person. I am good at finding solutions to problems and above all I am a positive and enthusiastic person.
