Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for both learning and children! It began as a little girl caring for and "teaching" my younger siblings and family members to even considering a life-long profession in it. I truly believe it is an innate passion. In fact, I come from a family of educators and child care providers--from my mom and Aunt Gen on down to my great-great grandmother Ruby! Over the past eight years, I have had the privilege of working with many, many wonderful children from the ages of 2 weeks old to around 15 years old. I have experience with gifted children as well as those with special needs (Down syndrome and ADHD). All of the families I have worked for over the years are still a part of my life as I also became a part of the family as well. Although I do Read more not have formal training in child care and childhood education I have spent over three years inside the classrooms of children from early Head start (volunteered to assist teacher during direct instruction) and students from grades K-5 (helped students in the after-school program master math, reading, and science as well as pass their standard tests). During these years, I learned quite a bit about childhood development and how to choose developmentally appropriate practices for children of all ages and capabilities. I loved working academically with the students so much that I continued tutoring students while in college--and I continue to do it today! Parents are often thrilled about how children feel so much more confident and interested after my sessions and I am constantly commended for my creativeness! There are many more skills and qualifications to discuss and I hope to speak with my new family soon. In the meantime, though, take care!
