Meet Robin

  • Comfortable with pets

I was a career nanny from 1986 until 1998. In 1986, I moved from Fall River, Massachusetts to Athens, Georgia to go to UGA to study Comparative Literature and World Religions. I hated living in the dorms and was lucky enough to find a part time live in nanny position taking care of two children near campus. The parents were (and still are!) professional artists who worked from home. Every quarter, when my class schedule would change they happily adapted to my new availability. I really scored! And the children! They were (and still are!) exceptional. I am still very close friends with the family. It was such a wonderful experience that when I graduated and the children started school, I sought out another nanny position in Buckhead’s Atlanta. This time, I lived in with a family of 4. The three oldest children were already in school so I was Read more responsible for the youngest all day and then I took care of the older ones after school. Again, I had a wonderful experience and am still in contact with the kids. After the baby started school, I moved on. I traveled to Europe and India and then back to Boston where I lived in with my brother and sister in law and took care of their first born. My sister in law couldn’t bear being away from her child and quit her job to stay home. So I decided to visit my friends in Honolulu. I was actually planning to go to Australia but I ended up running out of money so I got another live in nanny job. I loved that job and I would like to attach a blog that I wrote about the experience because it is so enormous and miraculous. Seriously. I took care of 4 children and the story of our meeting never fails to stun! I don’t use the word miracle lightly. After the youngest child started school, I got married and started my own family. I stayed home with my boys and they are now fine young men in college. When they were both in elementary school I renewed my CNA license (I had worked as a CNA after school when I was in high school) and worked part time at a nursing home. We moved to Rhode Island when my wonderful mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease to help my father. I became a stay at home daughter as well as a stay at home mother. My mother passed away in 2008, and by then my father was in need of assistance. He died in 2015. I spent the next few years writing and taking part time temporary work here and there. After my children were in college, my best friend was diagnosed with colon cancer so I moved back to Georgia to help him. He passed away at the end of 2019. And then the world changed. I have been home writing a book about my grandparents (my grandfather was a best selling author in England in the 1920s, Patrick MacGill. He’s SO GOOD! I highly recommend him). That brings me to right now. I’m still working on the book and I need to once again become an earner! I own my own home and I have dogs, cats and goats so I am not looking for a live in position. I have a reliable car, I don’t smoke and I can get references from every family I have ever worked for and my own adult sons. I love children of all ages. And they love me. We crack each other up. I’m also a good housekeeper and cook!
