Meet Charissa

  • Comfortable with pets

I am currently only looking for families who need occasional care rather than a full time position. With over 30 years experience in child care and having been a full-time nanny on and off for over 10 years (including six months in France), I have experience with all ages, from newborn to 12 years old. I was formerly certified as an EMT, as well as having been a Red Cross certified CPR/First Aid instructor. While I'm not an instructor anymore, I am currently certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid and AED. And while I hope to never have to do it again, I have had to use my training to save children's lives twice (once on a 2 year old I was babysitting and once on a stranger's infant while eating out.) Oahu has been my home for over 8 years and I hope to never leave. I Read more am 49-years-old but don't hesitate to get down on the floor to play, tickle, giggle, sing or just be silly. And, of course, I would be happy to provide references. I have twice left good "career" jobs to go back to working with children. That is just where my heart is. In fact, I have a Mexican orphanage I volunteered with and went to a few times a year when I lived on the mainland. When they needed a temporary dorm mom, I took a month off from work and headed across the border to fill in. I'd rather love what I do than sit in an office all day and go home to a big, empty house at night. As far as my childcare style, I believe that consistency is important for children, so I will enforce the rules you set. For older children, I will often bring crafts or other activities with me. I do swim and am comfortable taking children into the pool as long as a parent gives permission. I typically become really good friends with the kids I watch and we have a blast together! I believe in letting children make decisions and learn from their mistakes, but I also feel that they need to be respectful and follow instructions when necessary. I feel my greatest strength is that I have a good blend of being both the adult in charge and also someone to play with and have fun.

She is a wonderful lady. I can definitely trust her and recommend her. What I like her the most is she obey with the rules and the instructions. The kids loved her and asked about her from once to while. Thanks Charissa.

Charissa is a lovely person to work with! We had her babysit our son one night. She listened to us and made our son feel comfortable right off the bat. We’d be happy to work with her again!

Charissa is the BEST! She was so accommodating to our family and just has the sweetest, most motherly presence. We were looking for a sitter the last min on our visit to Hawaii so we called her references, who all gave her high praise, and she was able to come the very next day. 5 stars, all the way.

Charissa was amazing with both of my kids. We absolutely loved her. She has an awesome personality and the fact that my kids didn't even make a peep when I left said a lot already. They usually cry their eyes out when I leave for work.

We were new to the island and needed a sitter for the evening. after talking to Charissa for a few minutes I knew she would be the perfect fit. She has also been available last minute when we have needed her. On time and so sweet to our 10 month old son. Thanks Charissa!

Charissa was very warm, friendly and trustworthy. Our baby got along with her very easily. Was very thankful to have her as our first babysitter.

My two young daughters love Charissa. She is very kind, will play with them, take them to the local parks, and will feed them as well. We needed her for Monday nights several weeks in a row and she was always on time and in a great mood. Will def. use her again.
