There is little else in my life that brings me as much joy as watching children grow. I love the way their little hands grab onto your shirt as tight as they can and how their eyes light up with curiosity when they see something interesting and new for the first time. From tiny infants that rest in their cribs to awkward teenagers texting away on their cell phones, I have been equipped and prepared to care for, encourage, and celebrate children at any age. From a young age I have served in various capacities in church programs and community centers as a volunteer working alongside infants and children and of course, the consistent babysitting jobs ( I was always the favorite sitter!). During my undergraduate years, I began working in a Montessori school as a co-teacher in the infant room where I developed a skill set of infant care Read more that is founded on developmental theory. It was during this time that I began to pursue a career as a "Child Life Specialist". In my training I received certification as a Child Life Specialist from University of Santa Barbara and learned developmental theory and care practices to best educate, support and equip children at every age to cope effectively in the hospital setting. I was given training in how to care and educate children in developmentally appropriate ways to provide an environment that encourages healing and growth by partnering together with families and healthcare professionals in the General Pediatric/Adolescent Unit, Oncology, PICU, NICU, ED, Radiology, and Surgery. Previously, I worked for Early Intervention for Autism and administered ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy for children on the autism spectrum, which has added new training and ability to my already comprehensive experience in working with the special needs population. I also worked as a Program Director for a teen mother program in the Lincoln Square neighborhood where I provided training, education, and empowerment to teenage parents. Currently, I am working as a Family Child Advocate through North Shore Pediatric Therapy where I am working as a liaison for families.I also serve as an infant coordinator in the nursery of my local church ensuring a loving and safe environment for the numerous babies in our church community. Additionally, I also serve as a mentor and small group leader for high school girls. As you can see, I have equipped to care for children of any age in any situation with skill and professional experience guiding me.
