Hi, I am Kellen (they/them), I am currently working as a Montessori preschool teacher but am looking to return to in-home childcare. My base rate is $20/hour. I am seeking new clients for occasional, part time &/or full time childcare in Chicago & nearby areas such as Cicero, Oak Park, & Evanston. I am CPR + first aid trained. I do not provide driving services. I am seeking work w/ 8 months - preteens specializing in 1-4 yo. I have decades of diverse experience in childcare; I have worked with large families, LGBT+ families & children & adults with special needs. I am willing to do light housework & basic meals, tutoring & homework help. I am pet friendly & willing to do some pet care with cats & trained dogs. I do not live in a home with pets, but may visit or work in homes with pets. I Read more do not smoke. I wear a mask & vaccinate. I believe in modeling mutual respect with the child, assertive & gentle childcare that fosters both independence & community, teaching the child the reasons for rules & the natural consequences & providing them choices, & teaching & modeling consent and emotional regulation. I use redirection & positive re-reinforcement, I do not believe in punishment. I believe it is important for kids to have consistency & security. I believe in fostering a healthy relationship with food, a healthy sleep schedule & ample time for active & unstructured play I like to engage the kids in a variety of fun, creative, & educational activities & outings catered to their interests & growth. In working with clients some things that are important include a clear establishment & maintenance of professional boundaries, mutual respect, active & open communication, & shared values include working for an equitable society. I am looking to work in a relatively clean environment- some typical kid clutter is expected, of course! And people who are at least moderately covid cautious & will notify me of illness (I do perform some sick care). I require advanced notice of scheduling changed & partial compensation for last minute non-emergency cancellation. Likewise, I value your time & needs and give notice. I cover my own healthcare & taxes. Besides teaching & nannying, I have worked as a freelance journalist & researcher, an ophthalmic tech, & a food service worker. I also enjoy hosting game nights, & participating in mutual aid in the community. Resume/References available upon request.
