I enjoy working with children in various settings due to my university experience, work experience, and my personal relations. I went to Eastern Michigan University majoring in music therapy for the past 5 years and have had the opportunity to work with children with special needs in particular. In addition, I have had a full-time job as a caregiver to a teenager diagnosed with cerebral palsy. I also would be left with his two other siblings, ages 7 and 9, if parents and other family members were not available. Finally, I have also cared for my brother and neighborhood children when I was in middle school. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and encouraging them to try new things and assist them in discovering the wonderful mysteries that life presents itself. I encourage education and like to tutor children. I like to walk around zoos, museums and parks as well Read more as read and browse in the library. Besides reading, I love playing games. Board games, video games, sports, and cards. I'm not the best, but they are lots of fun. There is a huge soft spot for animals and I have walked and cared for dogs while owners are away. Another thing about myself is that music plays an integral part in my life. I studied music as a part of my major and my primary instrument is voice (mezzo-soprano). As a given, I love to sing. I also play guitar, piano, flute, and have started playing djembe (an African Drum) for my future career of a music therapist. Music Therapy is a clinical and evidence-based profession that uses the musical elements toward non-musical related goals and objectives to benefit a person's health. Goals may target a person's mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual health. Examples of how music can be used includes pain management, education, self-expression, self-confidence, decreasing anxiety, and many more. For more information, please check out the American Music Therapy Association.
