Meet Grady

  • Comfortable with pets

Growing up with more than 20 younger cousins, I was frequently tasked with keeping them entertained and cared for when their parents were unable. It was through this that I developed a skill for caring for children. I found out how good I was at and how much I truly loved caring for children when I got my first job at my local recreation center in the "Playworld" area. I would act as a guardian for them while their parents worked out/played sports/etc. I found that children were drawn to my sensitive and playful nature. I stuck with this job for a number of years until I decided to branch out into food, but my love for children and caring for them never left. After moving to Chicago for a period of time in 2015, I continued to work in restaurants until I felt that I wasn't doing what I Read more truly loved to do. I decided to apply to preschools around the area and landed a job as a teacher's assistant at Montessori Gifted Prep, a private school for children ages 2-6. I fell in love all over again. The first part of my interview was a formal, face-to-face with the principal. That went well, and he told me to come in the following week to perform a song for the children to see how I interacted with them (I had mentioned I was a musician). The following week, I came in to an eager group of young ones and sang them "Wheels on the Bus." They loved it. I must have played it 3 or 4 times before the lead teacher had to cut me off and refocus the class (in a very friendly and grateful way). I landed that job and stuck with it until I moved back to Indianapolis in mid-September. I also babysat for a family that my friend had been nannying for but was no longer able. They were extremely happy with my performance. I am deeply passionate about working with children. Their simple innocence and curiosity is deeply admirable to me, and I love being able to play any kind of role in their development. I plan on returning to school for a degree in early childhood education in the next year or so. I am extremely eager to find a family to work with in the city I grew up in. I can promise that you will be satisfied!
