Hiya, my name is Kalika! I am currently an actress, working in film, TV & commercials. I previously attended Shimer College, a "Great Books" liberal arts school, with a focus in psychology. I am originally from the Peru, IN, where I spent my childhood summers in an amateur circus and community theater. At age 12, in between rehearsals and performances, I nannied for various family and community members in need for child care. I'm currently with a childcare agency in Chicago, but am looking for a long-term position with a family, so I'm extending my search here at Sittercity. I worked for Smart Kids Tutoring Center in Chicago, and have directed theater productions, classes, and summer camps for children ages 5-17 in Atlanta, GA. I have lots of hands-on experience with families from various backgrounds, and can adapt to new ways of home & child rearing. This background made me Read more comfortable working with families big or small, and children of any age group. I adore animals of all kinds, and consider myself highly empathetic. My belief is that learning happens each moment for a child, and each moment is an opportunity to guide this growth. I encourage daily learning through imagination, being present in moment to moment experiences, and positive interactions. I can match the energy of a child when need be. I love going outside, and making sure the kids I watch have fun memories to tell mom and dad about. I am happy to complete different chores and tasks while care taking--including, but not limited to, homework help, laundry, morning or bedtime routines, organizing, or implementing reward systems to fix or encourage positive behavior. I love cooking, and due to personal dietary restrictions, have learned to deliciously accommodate food allergies, nutritional deficiencies, and diet plans. My hobbies include acting, singing, dancing like no one is watching, biking & enjoying nature, reading wherever I can, writing poetry & short stories, and staying fit through ballet, yoga, and pilates.
