I love children and have been babysitting since I was 13 years old -- which is over 40 years of experience!  I am a former English teacher and have master's degrees in education and fine arts.  I worked at one point as a full-time nanny, but for 18 years (2003-2021), I was an editor at the LSU School of Medicine.  However, I always enjoyed childcare as a way to counterbalance the dry, technical work I did all day and frequently babysat on evenings and weekends while working there. I even had two long-term part-time nannying jobs while at LSU.  Now that I have left LSU, I have returned my full-time efforts to childcare. I don't mind sitting for families who need occasional help here and there, but I most enjoy working for people who need someone on a regular basis as it gives me a chance to know the family and bond with the kids. I have also babysat for a number of families who are visiting New Orleans and take pride in making both parents and kids feel comfortable so that they can really enjoy this wonderful city. In fact, there are a number of out-of-town families who book me every time they visit the city, which I consider a high compliment, and it's wonderful to be able to see the kids grow over time. I have cared for children in a variety of situations -- from one child to 6+, from newborns through pre-teens, from occasional jobs to regular jobs.  As a former teacher, I know a fair amount about child development and can also help older children with homework -- particularly anything to do with English (writing, grammar, reading skills).  I have a passing acquaintance with French (used to be nearly fluent, but I never have the opportunity to use it, so I lost most of my ability), and I used to play the piano.  I have also taken CPR training several times (though I don't have current certification).  I drive a reliable and fully insured vehicle and have an excellent driving record.  I enjoy most pets and have no allergies.  I am older than the average babysitter, which makes me far more experienced and responsible, and I am intelligent and educated as well.  In addition, for local families who are looking for a regular babysitter/nanny, I have the advantage of living in New Orleans permanently; unlike college students, I don't move away during the summers or at the end of a few years. I am the older sibling to a younger sister and watched her often. When I was 13 I took a babysitting class. When I was in high school I took a childhood education class where I had to take an OSHA course along with a CPR and first aid class. I was also in charge of a pre k class as part of the childhood education class. I have watched children from ages newborn-13. I have watched upwards of 6 kids at a time which included infants. I am the mother of five children who are all grown up now and out in the world.i have recently retired from nursing and now I want to take care of children. I love being with children, playing with them, reading to them, talking with them and keeping them safe. I was able to stay at home while my children were growing up. One of my pregnancies produced twins. A boy and girl. That was interesting. I homeschooled one of my boys who needed to grow up a little more before being comfortable away from home. I had my children in Montessori education as long as I was able and was active in their education. In nursing I worked with both well babies and sick ones. Loads of experience. Lots of memories. My background in caring for infants, toddlers, and youth started when I went on my first mission trip to a children's home in Reynosa, Mexico.
