Meet Meryl

  • Comfortable with pets

Hi, I’ve been caring for children for the last 30 years. After 6 wonderful years with my current family, I’m looking to start with my next family around Labor Day — date is flexible. I was a preschool teacher at Tufts Education Daycare Center in Somerville for 21 years, and have been the nanny for a 2-child (boy+girl) family in Somerville for the last 6 years. I’m always on-time and dependable. If you occasionally need me to come earlier, stay later, change hours, or babysit on “date nights”, that’s not a problem. I live in Allston, and commute on my bicycle. I have a license, but don’t drive. With the kids, I walk and take public transit to school/daycare, playgrounds, libraries, playdates, and activities. I’m very comfortable in providing the love, feeding, caring, and attention that babies need and deserve. I love talking to them about the world around them. Read more I’ve seen my fair share of dirty diapers and I’m good at getting kids potty-trained. I think kids should be polite and respectful to parents, siblings, other kids, and me. I show them respect and help teach them how to be kind and respectful to others. Kids can sometimes get upset. I stay calm and never raise my voice. I have lots of ways to get kids out of their “bad moods”. I find that distracting them works well. Sometimes they just need a few minutes to compose themselves. I often come back and talk to them about what happened, providing the opportunity for “teachable moment.” I love doing lots of different activities with the kids — coloring, reading, cooking, walking, pretending, building, playing outside, workbooks, drawing, etc. Things that engage their mind and develop them physically. I like to teach young kids some ASL (American Sign Language) — even before they can talk. I have also taught yoga to kids. I love reading to children — and them reading to me. You will never see the children in front of a “kids show” or watching a movie. I might have them watch short educational (and fun) videos based on their interests. I’ll often find new and interesting activities to try. I’ll always be attentive to your children. You won’t find me on my phone and I don’t post anything on social media. I am a healthy eater and I like preparing healthy meals and snacks for the children. I don’t think kids should eat many sweets or any junk food. I have been certified in First Aid and CPR. My husband and I have a 12-day vacation trip already booked from December 7-19.
