I really found my love of working with kids when I first volunteered at a local women’s shelter in Homer, Alaska. At the shelter, I facilitated educational and fun activities for groups of children aged 0-12 while their mothers were in group meetings. That experience was the first time I really learned that sharing knowledge moved in both directions between children and adults. While in college, I maintained my interest in working with children by leading geography awareness programs in elementary classrooms, volunteering at youth shelters and interning as a naturalist leading kids programs in the Alaska wilderness. In addition to these various co-educational experiences, I’ve worked with many families as a temporary babysitter for date nights all the way to being a live-in nanny. One of my favorite childcare positions was accompanying a Professor on her research trip to Tibet and helping her with her 9 month old baby Read more while we camped with Tibetan nomads and she conducted interviews and research. Another special position I held was living with a mother and her two girls on their oyster farm in Homer, Alaska. I was with the girls, aged 5 and 7, from wake-up to bed-time and was responsible for their meals (both had celiacs disease), activities and their safety as we explored the woods and ocean we lived next to. I'm also a proud aunt to three nephews who I care for often and love dearly. I’m comfortable with pets, meal preparation (also for special dietary needs), tidying and providing fun and educational activities for kids. I have my own vehicle and a spotless driving record. I'd also be happy to elaborate on any of my childcare experiences and look forward to meeting your family!
