I am passionate about creating a kind, nurturing environment for children as unique individuals! My most recent experience was as resident camp counselor, responsible for 6-12 campers, ages 8-17. I worked for the same camp in the summer of 2018, 2019, and 2021. Recently, I have also babysat my friend's 1-year-old a couple times for 6-8 hours. When I was younger, I babysat 2 toddlers (siblings, 2 years apart) part-time on weekends. I don’t have formal training in Education, but it is a subject of significant interest. The school I attended for grades 7-12 was/is part of the progressive school reform movement, specifically the “Essential” style, as led by Ted Sizer. Naturally, the topic of education was something we discussed semi-regularly in school. For example, we had a project at the end of 9th grade to research different approaches (such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Essential, and more), then propose an Read more ideal preschool influenced by the different approaches. This experience helped instill a passion for quality education in me. In college, I majored in History, but I maintained a plan to join the broad field of education or childcare, in some form, as my career. I am the type of person to spend my free time exploring different resources to expand my understanding and preparedness for whatever I may face; Learning is lifelong, and I am dedicated to continuously learning how to best support your child as they grow. I would like to stay long-term, especially because I find continued connection to be very valuable for children’s development. It will help me fully know the child – what their interests and challenges are – so that I can create the most supportive environment for him. Part of why I found babysitting for the same family and being a counselor for the same camp meaningful, is that I was able to see the children grow over the years. Nothing made me happier than to see my same children find their interests, try new things, and become joyfully confident young people. If you're looking for someone to help cook, I have been the primary "chef" in my family for years, have an array of cookbooks to choose from, and know how to make amazing challah bread. I look forward to discussing my experience with you in more depth, and I am happy to expand upon any topic, mentioned or not.
