Hello! My name is Layla and I hope you'll consider me as a childcare professional to join your family. I'm a graduate student at Simmons (MSW, Trauma Certificate Program) and intern at a Partial Hospitalization Program three days a week. I have two weekdays and weekends flexible to care for your family! The past 3 years I was a counselor at a residential facility, working closely with the 4-14 age group. My job included creating activity programming, planning off-campus trips, preparing food and cleaning, assisting with homework and helping kids with routines like showering, brushing teeth and cleaning rooms. De-escalation and emotional skill-building were the most important parts of my job. I've worked full time at a therapeutic school for students with special needs; primarily on the Autism spectrum and those with learning disabilities, processing disorders, and mental illnesses. As a middle school counselor, I do with my students throughout Read more the day, assisting with classwork, executive functioning, sensory strategies, facilitating positive social interactions, emotional support and processing behaviors. I ran the GSA and was on the Safe Schools Committee. As a Therapeutic Training and Support I worked alongside a therapist doing in-home therapy, working on needs such as emotion regulation and distress tolerance, family communication, routines and bedtime practice. I have experience filing insurance paperwork and communicating with doctors, so am comfortable with assisting in any tasks needed to run a household. I have current CPR and First Aid certifications. I'm trained in crisis intervention and therapeutic practices, and am skilled at listening and supporting kiddos when they’re struggling. My past volunteering experience was at an after-school program and with LGBTQ teens at a community center. I've previously worked in the photo industry and enjoy arts and crafts. My favorite games to play with kids are Uno, Connect 4, and the ones they make up! I love gardening, to cook, spend time outside, and explore fun activities in the area. I grew up with animals and would love to spend time with yours as well! References available upon request. *Availability notes: Due to class times, I am not available after 4 pm Wednesday - depending on location, latest would be 5/5:30.
