When I began working, I taught children skiing in the winter and sailing in the summer. I found myself loving the days spent outside in a range of elements, teaching my students how to develop self confidence and collaboration skills in a learning environment. Passing down these skills was so rewarding, as I was able to see my students develop a love for life-long skills that I so enjoyed throughout my life. I have returned to work at my local ski hill every winter, having found immense joy in seeing my students grow year after year and contributing to the positive development of their sense of self. During the summer of 2020, I co-ran a small private summer camp for families in my town. I developed nannying and interpersonal skills. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen and fostered immense development for my campers. As people mature, they often lose Read more sight of the childish wonder that makes lovely little moments so memorable and impactful. Although this sounds cliché, I genuinely feel as though working with children teaches us invaluable lessons about ourselves and the way that we interact with the world. These children taught me as much if not more than I taught them. I learned to check my ego at the door, that mistakes make us human, reinforcing my belief that true compassion and kindness for others is paramount to cultivating healthy relationships. I hope to become a teacher after I graduate from college, and I would love to continue working with children until then.
