Hello! 😊 I am an experienced babysitter turned nanny of 10+ years! I grew up in a family of nine children, always surrounded by younger siblings and cousins. I knew from the time I created my first All About Me book in kindergarten that I wanted to be a teacher because of my innate love for childcare and learning! I began babysitting since 13 years of age, and I have held seven different babysitting jobs since! Additionally, in high school I completed hundreds of hours of field work through the Teacher Cadet program, working with 1st grade, 8th grade English Language Arts, and 9-12th grade Algebra. I also took the MTTC (Michigan Teacher Test for Certification) and passed all three sections! In my first year of college I attended GVSU, and my sophomore and Junior years I studied Psychology at Albion College. In the summertime, I have been a lifeguard, Read more briefly taught swim lessons, and have nannyed for a family in the heart of downtown Detroit. There are many reasons why nannying has been the most fulfilling job i have yet to experience. I think the biggest reason I love to nanny is because I love to see the lightbulb go on whenever a child learns something new about the world, themselves, or others. Seeing their personalities develop while caretaking, playing, and even just down to learning to live with all of the human emotions is such a precious responsibility, and it is one of my favorite pastimes because it involves slowing down, being patient, authentic, and maybe best of all, silly, where I’ve found many other jobs I’ve held value being fast-paced and aren’t as centered on valuing individual learning styles or self-expression. Since the start of the pandemic, my number one job has been being a barista at Starbucks. While I have come to love the staff and the crafting of beverages, I can’t help but miss a job that feels like it makes more of a difference. Connecting with customers is valuable, but I cannot say I feel I am contributing as much to society as I did working in classrooms or as a babysitter or nanny! I love reading, music, crafts, play, tutoring, and listening, so I feel that I am equipped to help with a variety of ages and interests. :) Openly, one con that sets me apart from others is that I do not drive, as I’ve never had my license. I have managed my various jobs the last 12 years by a combination of Ubering and walking. I am also open to moving to a new state, as I am ready to broaden my horizons in more ways than one. I am excited to learn more about the world and to teach all I’ve learned thus far. :)
