Hi, my name is Valerie and I am interested in part-time childcare work. I am a mom of 5 Vikings ( as my husband and I call them). My two oldest have moved out, and I have 2 in High School and 1 in Community College. I have been a stay-at-home mom for (most of) 23 yrs. I started following my kids to school, and volunteering in classrooms until the school finally hired me! When I realized that my kids would rather be with their friends I decided it was time to get out of the house. My neighbor agreed and offered me up as a nanny for friends of hers. I obtained my CPR certification and accepted a temporary Nanny position, part-time, for an infant. I so enjoyed my time with a little again! My position ended when circumstances changed and the family moved from the area. Since that first job, I’ve had a family in town for two days for work and hired me to care for their infant for a few days. Then two very lovely families who each only needed me part of the week became my primary jobs and kept my schedule full. Then it happened. A job offer for Husband, in Michigan. Since we are originally from Michigan, we made the very difficult decision to move. Yay Husband. Bummer to leave the families I had been a part of. Pre-Husband and Vikings, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science at Central Michigan University. Being a bit of a wanderer, I found myself in Chicago working at an Ad Agency! My family and I moved to Greensboro about 8yrs ago, and loved having both mountains and Ocean available for our adventures. However, the never ending heat and humidity will not be missed. I enjoy getting outdoors daily, and perhaps it’s the Earth Science background, but I love taking the little ones outside and introducing them to the trees, flowers, birds, whatever we come across. Kids are such natural sponges, they soak it all in. Having the opportunity to smell or touch or hold something greatly improves their understanding of their environment.

I am an loving and responsible mother of a beautiful young lady. I have over 40 years experience caring for children in private homes and in licensed day care centers. I successfully raised my daughter alone. She is now a college graduate and is employed in her field of study. I also have over 30 years as a cook/chef, both privately and in day cares, hospitals, hotels, and senior living centers. I also have creative and artistic talent, which in the past has helped with not just school projects, homework, but also with activities to help to build a child's imagination. I enjoy cooking, sports, playing games, reading and arts and crafts.

I have a love of children from growing up in a big family and being the oldest. Kids bring lots of happiness and make life more of an adventure. I like to make a difference and show the kids that we can always have fun and learn lots of new things. I have been working in daycares since 2018 and started nannying in December of 2022. I’m also CPR and first aid certified. I worked with newborns up to 10 year olds mostly but more than comfortable with older children. I like to do arts and crafts and be outside as much as possible.
