During the school year, I work at Houston Elementary school as a paraprofessional. I work daily with children that have learning disabilities or need extra help in various areas of their education. I live in Houston, MN and have three children of my own. The duties I complete on a daily basis are as follows: Title 1 Duties include: Working with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by the teacher. Assisting the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Special Education Duties include: Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers. Implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress. Provide support for individual students inside and outside Read more the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists. I also work closely with other paraprofessionals and Houston Elementary School staff members on a daily basis. Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills. Modifying or adapting instruction for students with disabilities; assisting students with self-care tasks (as necessary); and record-keeping. I am also the substitute secretary for Houston Public School Elementary Office. These duties include: answer phones, data entry, problem solving, in and outbound calls to parents.
