Meet Sarah

Hello! My name is Sarah and I am originally from NE Minneapolis. I am 35 and have two children. Harper is 9 and Connor is 3. I currently live in Richfield and hold a position at a child development center located in down town Minneapolis as a lead preschool teacher. I work with ages 3-5, but also have experience working with infants and toddlers at the center. Ever since I was a young girl, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, mother, and caregiver. I started "officially" babysitting at age 12 after earning my red cross babysitting first aid certificate. As an adult, I babysat as well as worked as a nanny for a few different families. During that time, I graduated from Aveda Institute with a cosmetology license and did hair as well as worked with children on and off for about 7 years. Previous to my current Read more position as a teacher, I worked for the MPLS kids program, and I absolutely loved it. I was able to care for my daughter during most of the day before she was in preschool, and then go to work with children at the after school program. I was also hired for the summer program at MPLS kids where we went on 3 field trips a week with about 50 elementary aged children (ages 5-11). It was one of my favorite summers ever! I have a passion for learning from children while in turn teaching them things I know and learn along the way. I'm usually known as the "goofy" and"fun" teacher but I'm also all about routines and boundaries. I truly believe that most children thrive with routine and limits. I'm extremely into hands on learning and learning from trial and error. I love to be outside and enjoy teaching kids about animals and nature. I am passionate about music and dancing (whatever your style. Side note: I have no experience with dancing unless you include high school dance team haha). I think that movement and music can not only help everyone's physical health, but also our mental health as well. I am all about emotional development when working with children. I was once told by a professor at MCTC that children will eventually learn the things they need to know in order to pass classes and tests, but the true job of an early childhood teacher is teaching children how to recognize their feelings as well as others, and how to cope and learn from them. Social development goes hand in hand with emotional development and is a vital part of a child's development. I am very energetic and like to stay busy. I love pets, cooking, gardening, crafts, and reading. I like to be silly and truly care about the families I work with. I am looking for a family that will care and trust me as much as I do them. As a single mother of 2, I'm looking for a family that will be able to give me regular hours with the occasional nighttime babysitting if need be. I would also like to find a family that understands being a mother means I may need some flexibility when it comes to my children (sent home sick, emergencies, doctors appointments, and possible times my children can tag along while I work with your children although not common).
