I have worked with children all my life. In college, I worked for 2 years in a childcare center as the afternoon preschool teacher. After college, I have spent many years teaching in private schools through the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC). I also spent a short time working as a nanny when I did not have a teaching position. I lived with the family and enjoyed them immensely. Currently, I have resigned from my work as a teacher in the CLC, and I am looking for a full-time nanny position. My experience with children has varied widely throughout my teaching career. As an educator, I have been required to manage multiple priorities and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment. In my relations with students, I have resolved situations involving conflicts while initiating character development techniques. I have made decisions while maintaining a professional standard and following school policies. Read more I have a deep love for helping children find success and fully develop their unique gifts. Initially, I feel that children simply need to know someone cares about them. Discovering their characters and desires in life, definitely is the key to building a relationship of trust and growth with them. Children need to know you are consistent. Children need to know that they may make mistakes, but that you will be there to help them figure out the mess they have made. Children need to be able to see that you have time for them. Children need to have someone that just listens and cares. I do believe that children should have high, yet obtainable expectations set for them. They need to be taught to respect the authority figures in their life. They also should be guided in the pursuit of the character qualities of self-control, kindness, honesty, and generosity. I feel they should be taught the difference between right and wrong, and learn to apologize to those whom they have wronged. While training children, I have also sought to help them see the importance of helping with tasks while experiencing the joys of a job well done. In conclusion, I feel the establishment of teamwork is a priority when taking care of the needs of children. I enjoy developing successful professional working relationships with parents in providing attainable goals for their children. These strong relationships can only help in the successful development of the children.
