Hi my name is Olivia, I’m 20 years old. I graduated high school in May of 2021. Since then I’ve been working in the winters to save money and volunteering on farms in the summer around Missouri to make my dreams of becoming a full time homesteader a reality. This summer I am staying in KC to continue saving up. I have experience caring for my sister’s two kids. In the summer of 2022, I lived with her and her husband, her two year old daughter, and her baby son for around sixty days. I helped her cook, clean, do laundry, and unpack (as she had just recently moved) while her husband was at work. I changed diapers, gave baths, and read books to them. For the daughter, I helped her practice songs, learn the alphabet (in sign language too), talk about the weather, go on nature walks and catch Read more bugs and frogs, and go foraging for wild strawberries, wild grapes, burdock, etc. I plan to stay with my sister and assist her again for another two months this winter when her new baby will be born! Another experience that may be relevant is my time spent volunteering on an off-grid farm called Bear Creek near Kirksville, Missouri. There I often had to babysit for three kids, an eight year old, a four year old, and a two year old. I took them swimming in the local pond (with life jackets of course), apple picking, bike riding, even played dress up with them:). The kids were all homeschooled, so on Thursdays I tutored the older two in reading, writing, math, and science, where we did lots of fun experiments. I always stress safety with the kids I care for while also encouraging them to push their boundaries and comfort zones. Being someone they can trust and feel safe with, aids their ability to do so because that is how growth and confidence are cultivated. I also have lots of experience cleaning houses as I worked for The Maids for quite some time. I don’t mind doing some housecleaning for the families I sit for ;) If you have any questions at all, I would be more than happy to answer right away.
