I am a recent college graduate and moved to the Asheville area for a year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA. I have worked as a summer camp staff member and residential counselor at two camps within the past few years. This included supervising and engaging with campers (K-12) in activities throughout the day, during meals, leading games and songs, encouraging a challenge-by-choice environment for growth during adventure activities, and supervising resident campers overnight - generally, serving as their "parent" for the duration of their stay! During college, I served as a tutor for elementary school students who were first generation English learners, and volunteered to provide childcare during a few community events. Several years ago, I volunteered with children as the recreation and games director for a Vacation Bible School program in my hometown for two years, planning and leading activities for children K-4. I greatly enjoy pets (and currently miss having a dog of my own!), so caring for both children and pets is not a problem!
