My collection of life experiences includes time spent with young ones as a forest school and Montessori teacher, a virtual community leader for children + families during the pandemic, and teaching classes + managing the kitchen of an outdoor education center. I have a BA in Spanish and a minor in interdisciplinary studies, with a focus on early-childhood wilderness education, from Appalachian State University. I am a certified Wilderness First Responder with training in CPR and epinephrine administration; have completed an intensive Nature-Based, Early-Childhood Teacher Training from the Eastern Region Association of Forest and Nature Schools (ERAFANS), and am currently pursuing certification as a North Carolina Environmental Educator. In the coming months, I plan to become a Certified Positive Discipline Educator and begin taking courses towards a graduate certificate in Family Life Education and Coaching from NC State University. I am a writer, creator, idealist, lover of weeds + Rachel Carson’s words, life-long learner, and hope-er for the future. I feel most connected to the Earth when wondering with a young friend about where the wind comes from and planting seeds in spring soil. I am passionate about sociolinguistics and language acquisition, educational philosophy, yeast + lactic acid bacteria, looking very closely at small things, Mary Oliver’s poetry, and, above all, my beloved canine companion, Oso.
