I'm a nursing student at Duke and want to become a pediatric nurse. I am looking for part-time babysitting work (no more than 10 hours a week). I am available evenings and weekends. I love children especially younger children! I have been babysitting and nannying all my life! I treat children with respect and try to make everything fun for them! I am a competent driver (NEVER been in a car accident) and I have a GPS on my phone. I have babysat for a family with 5 children for over 10 years and accompanied them on vacations and trips. I would cook simple meals for the kids and do light housecleaning (tidying, dishes, laundry). I would drive them to lessons and appointments. We would read books, do crafts, play on their swingset and play many board games and imagination games. The oldest had severe medical needs (asthma) and I was able to play with him and monitor his asthma. I also spent a summer nannying for a family with two little girls ages 4 and 2. I would do craft projects with the kids and often take them to the park. I also supervised the four year old's birthday party with about 10 children under the age of 8 in attendance. Along with babysitting and nannying I have also volunteered with children to serve as a mentor or a tutor and have formed lifelong relationships. I have taken courses in child development and even worked as a research assistant on a project that investigated how children flourish and succeede. I am CPR certified, a CNA, and know basic French and American Sign Language. Using sign language with babies is a great way to communicate with them! I have also volunteered on a crisis line for teens offering support and counselling. I have worked with special needs children and children with diseases at a long-term care facility mainly with children ages 2-18 years old. I administrated oral medications, breathing treatments, entreal feedings, and ointments. I also took vital signs, assisted residents in activities of daily living and recreational and physical therapy goals. In high school I volunteered full-time at a daycare center. I worked with children as young as 6 weeks old and as old as 9 months. I helped children nap, fed them, played with them, documented their eating, activity and diaper changes. I even learned to distinguish between the different children's hungry cries versus tired cries!  As you can tell I am very passionate about children! I am dependable, organized, friendly and trustworthy. I would be kind, nurturing, and fun babysitter! I don't smoke, drink or swear!
