Hello there, I'm Sophie. I am currently a student at Northeastern University where I am studying architecture and psychology. However, up until leaving for University I worked as a babysitter for four years. I was born and raised in Portugal, and studied from grade school to high school at St. Julians school in Cascais, Portugal. From this experience, and having grown up in a trilingual household I have developed a fluency in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, with an understanding of French and Italian. At my school I was involved in our babysitting groups where I worked with younger students, and watched other day-students off campus. This experience is what developed my passion for working in this field and led me to truly enjoy working with children. What I love most about working with children is their curiosity. I have learned to see things in many different perspectives, get back in Read more touch with my inner child, and most importantly, I have become very aware of the importance of taking care of my personal well-being to show up as the best caregiver I can be. Growing up, I had a nanny that stayed with my family for 15 years. We had a very special relationship and I try to carry her loving and thoughtful influence into my work as a babysitter. I believe that it is extremely important for children to have someone who will actively engage with them, and make them feel heard and understood. I've made it my mission to get the kids I work with to see their full potential and embrace their unique qualities, because for myself this allows me to see the children flourish into confident and kind young adults. I also encourage the children that I work with to engage in activities such as reading, crafts, outdoor activities, music, and any other creativity-sparking projects. I find this to be extremely important to support children with discovering their interests that they can carry on with them. Personally, as much as the children enjoy these activities, I enjoy partaking in them just as much as they do! In my free time I love to read, learn about health and wellness, cook, paint, and get involved in new hobbies!
