My experience with children started when I was 15 and had a babysitting job at a very busy bingo. From there, I have worked educating children about reptiles at the Rio Grande Nature Center, as a tutor at Bernallio County Family Literacy Center in an after school and summer school program, a student teacher at Monte Vista Elementary while I obtained my Bachelor's in Multicultural Elementary Education, and, once I secured my degree, I worked for five years as a Kindergarten Teacher in a small charter school. As a Kindergarten teacher, I learned how to implement the NM Common Core in Literacy and Math, as well as topics in Science and Social Studies within the NM State Standards through use of curriculum planning with very specific targeted goals for student advancement. As a nanny, I would be willing and happy to bring these skills into my client's home, to enrich Read more their child/children's experiences and every day life. I love to read aloud to children, and can engage them in close reading skills, and all the elements of literature in a fun and creative way. I am an expert in crafts, arts, and science, as well as in phonics and phonemic awareness. It was my joy as a teacher to engage my students in all aspects of learning, and I will bring this into my client's home, as well, if they wish. I also just like hanging out with children, engaging them in conversation, and having fun! Fun, to me, is going on walks, playing board games, puzzles, blocks, dress up, etc! Being a nanny, I believe, would incorporate all the things that make teaching so unbelievably great, like creating a bond with children, having fun, learning, and creating a safe and happy environment, with none of the stress of having to go home and lesson plan nightly and every weekend. My style of discipline includes being patient, fair and kind. I do believe each child needs a turn to express what went wrong if they are arguing, and teach them to listen to the other side and find ways to compromise. Children need examples of how to handle these situations, and role playing is perfect for this! If needed I do like an age appropriate time out. Never spanking, hitting or yelling. I also believe in positive reinforcement, whether lots of verbal praise or an actual "prize box, sticker system". I also love establishing a set, firm schedule works with most children, and I am good at following routine. I also have some ideas for separation anxiety, as I have also dealt a bit with this.
