I have a great deal of experience working with school-age kids. When I was in Elementary school, I worked as the Safety Patrol for the entire school. Kids with special needs are also near to my heart. I often spent my lunchtime playing games with them or steering them in their wheelchair around campus. I was then the assistant playground supervisor in sixth grade, where I helped kids problem solve and get along with one another. My love for kids only grew from there and I started babysitting two young boys when I was in middle school, ages 8 and 10. Once I graduated high school, I started my own non-profit organization called Butterflies for Courageous Kids; where I demonstrate my creative side by making individual personalized cardstock butterflies for kids fighting cancer and other pediatric illnesses and conditions. I have been running this for over 3 years and have Read more sent over 4,000 butterflies to kids in 1,300 cities and 14 countries. Through this experience I have gotten to visit eleven kids both in and out of the hospital, in intensive and stable conditions. One of those kids had cancer and it had made it so she was completely paralyzed from the neck down, another had NF and Pneumonia and had to spend her third birthday in the hospital, another had just had a major open heart surgery and the doctors had to keep her chest open because her heart wouldn't stop bleeding (they didn't even think that she would make it). One of the many things I have learned from visiting kids is that they don't know the severity of their condition, so they need unconditional love and support regardless of the battle they are facing. I apply this knowledge to every kid and person that I encounter. I just love kids with all my heart and making them happy truly is the greatest gift in life. Kids are a blessing!
