A warm hello! My name is Leah Koerwer, a recent graduate from New York University, who is excited to get to know you and your family. During my time at NYU, I trained as an actress, with a minor in child and adolescent psychology, and I firmly believe that both of these fields provide vital skills to be a child caretaker. As an actor, an important tool is to know how to improvise. If something goes wrong - a cast member forgets his line, a prop doesn't work, it is important to be able to think on one's feet and to calmly move the scene forward. This also applies to childcare; children are quite spontaneous and the day may not always go as planned, so it is important to be able to calmly create a new plan and move onwards. My minor in child psychology has made me aware of Read more the impact and importance adult mentors have on children. I have studied the various steps of child development as well as the impact a positive adult role model can have on a young mind. With this knowledge, I will be able to cater to the specific needs of the children, while maintaining a safe, fun, and creative environment. I have worked with children my entire life. As a teenager in New Jersey, I volunteered to teach Sunday School classes to 3 and 4 year olds at my church. Furthermore, I frequently babysat or nannied. I am comfortable changing diapers, working with children with disabilities, communicating with parents, and most importantly, having fun. I have a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record. I am also comfortable with swimming and playing outdoors. I look forward to meeting you and your family!
