Hello, my name is Valerie Dry and I am a graduate from Andrews University with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. I currently am employed as lifeguard and swim instructor at the Brooklyn Sports Club. Hailing from a family full of children, from a young age I was given the responsibility of being in charge of the younger ones. My parents, aunts, and uncles saw that I had an undeniable skill for caring for children. Not only do I have the appropriate skills to effectively care for children, I also have the desire and passion to care for them as well. I have been a nanny on two separate occasions with each stint of employment lasting 1-2 years and I have also been a baby sitter for 9 years total. My responsibilities as a nanny and baby sitter included preparing meals and bottles, bathing the children, Read more and getting the children to bed on time among other things. Recently, I worked at the Crayon Box, which is the on-campus daycare and preschool for Andrews University. While employed at the Crayon Box, I was given the responsibility to care for and ensure the safety of either 3 to 4 infants or 5 to 6 toddlers simultaneously. This experience not only sharpened my skills as a caregiver but also helped me more effectively handle multiple children. During my clinical hours as a Speech Language Pathology student, I was able to gain experience in working with children with Autism. Also in these and other settings, such as instructing children how to swim, I have been given the opportunity to gain experience in working with children with Autism. I am currently certified in CPR and First Aid by the American Red Cross. I became a caregiver because I am passionate about caregiving because spending time with minds that are budding with questions, ideas, and quirky theories or spending time with little ones who are so helpless brings out the purest form of love. I believe that I am a great caregiver because I make it my goal to know and take into consideration that every single child is unique and needs individualized care, even if they are from the same family. Each child must be cared for in a way that benefits them best and with time and patience that can be achieved. Certain things in caregiving that are universal, but there are ways in which you can still cater to each child specifically, and that skill is what I pride myself in. I hope that I can be of great help and make a difference in your family's life for the better.
