Meet Jennifer

  • Comfortable with pets

Hello, I wanted to write a short piece about myself to help you and your family get to know a little bit about who I am. Well to start, my name is Jennifer and I am 20 years old. My fiancé is going into the marines and I am looking to earn a little extra cash while we plan our wedding next year. I have had other jobs besides babysitting but child care seems to come naturally to me. I find that kids will naturally gravitate towards me. I was previously employed as a nursing assistant at Garnet Health Catskills. Although the work was good and the pay was okay, the hours and sleepless nights were awful. I was often working 16 hours back to back taking care of 6-12 patients at a time. I often went without lunches or breaks. Needless to say it was fun, but I needed Read more a change. I believe that babysitting is often overlooked. Being able to watch babies and children learn and grow into the people they become is such a special thing. Some babysitters even become life long friends with the families they take care of. Down below you will see three major categories I try to go over with any new family I babysit for (Skills, Activities, and “The Paper”). I highly recommend reading all of it before contacting me for a start date. Thank you :) -SKILLS- I’ve put together a list of skills and experiences that will help me in taking care of your family. I also added things that I am willing to do in order to be as helpful to your family as I possibly can. -I’ve taken multiple basic life support classes. (Chest compressions, Heimlich, etc.) (babies, children, adults) -I have no problem taking care of any family pet. (Baths, grooming, minor training, emptying liter boxes, cleaning tanks or cages, etc.) -I have experience tutoring children from pre-k through elementary and a bit of middle school. -I have no problem transporting children and/or pets. (Dr/vet appointments, school, grooming, haircuts, after school activities, shopping etc.) -I have experience dealing with newborns and toddlers . (Bottles, feed times, burps, changing, getting dressed, baths, etc.) -I have no problem cleaning the house while babies and/or children are sleeping or at school. (Vacuuming, dishes, sweeping, etc) -I have no problem preparing kids for school. (Lunches, backpacks, etc.) -I have tons of experience cooking homemade meals for all meals of the day. -I have no problem doing overnights as long as I’m notified a day beforehand or vacations as long as I’m notified a week beforehand. (There are certain exceptions such as emergencies that are completely fine. As long as I am aware of the situation I can be very lenient. I ask that all parents/guardians give me an hour heads up before telling me they will be home later than 30 minutes. I ask that parents/guardians give me 2hrs notice before telling me they need me for longer than 4 additional hours)(of course with exceptions) -I have basic first aid skills. (Burns, cuts, bits, etc.) -ACTIVITIES- I’ve put together a short list of activities I like to do with the children I babysit. -Board games and Puzzles -Playing outside -Baking and Cooking (w/ parents permission) -Arts and Crafts -Themed movie nights (once a week)(w/ parents permission) -THE PAPER- I’ve put together a list of information I need before starting with any new families. -A list of allergies (food, medicine, seasonal, etc.) -A list of emergency contacts (mother, father, etc.)(work, house, and cell numbers) -A list of any medical conditions (Asthma, etc.) -A list of all other important contacts (school, primary pediatrician/ dr, etc.) -A list of parents house rules (no tv on week days, etc.) -A short routine list (bedtime, breakfast/lunch/dinner, etc.) (not mandatory, but will ask later) -A short list of likes and dislikes (Food, toys, etc.) Example: (My daughter Ella can’t sleep without her stuffed bunny.) (not mandatory, but will ask later) -A small list of information needed for (drs./dentist appointments, school pick ups and drop offs, school shopping, etc.) [DOB, insurance cards, school name, school times, clothing sizes, shoe sizes] (grocery shopping) (vet appointments) (If needed) I ask all new families to schedule a time that I can come and meet everyone a day before my start date. This helps me get to know your family a bit. That day I will be taking notes. I will also need the list of information asked for above. Please keep in mind that although it is not mandatory to make this list. The list helps me keep your family as safe as possible while in my care. Payments can either be in cash or through an online app such as cash app or Venmo. I can’t wait to meet your family! -Sincerely Jennifer
