Hi, my name is Catherine! I have experience working with infants all the way up to teenagers. I began gaining experience with child care by caring for a a newborn up until they were almost three years old. I absolutely loved spending time with them almost every day and the experience really solidified my love for helping others. After ending this position (due to the family moving out of state), I began gaining more professional experience with children who had suffered from trauma. I interned at a counseling center for children where I primarily worked with small groups of preschool aged children, and after this position, I moved on to working in a group home with teenage girls. These forms of slightly more intense child care really helped me form a good idea of how to set appropriate boundaries with children considering their past experiences and issues that they may have, and they also helped me build empathy, listening skills, and learn how to develop a therapeutic relationship which involved not just watching a child, but really interacting with them and getting to know them as to make them feel more comfortable and have a safe support in their life. I am interested in stepping down from the more intense level of child care that I am used to and just seeking a family that I can help for some time while keeping these new skills that I have learned in mind. Through my position in the group home that I am currently working at, I have become First Aid, CPR, and medication certified. I have worked with children with mental illnesses, behavioral struggles, and general physical illnesses.
