Art and expression is key to my approach in childcare and education. I've had the opportunity to nanny closely with two families, and to participate in various educational programs. I have worked for Chris and Emily Kates for almost 6 years now, their three girls are 7, 5 and 3. Additionally, I've worked with Allie and Njabulo Mbelu caring for their 3 year old daughter and assisting them with house keeping. I emphasize play and expression to explore ourselves, and have extensive experience that enables me to firmly set healthy boundaries. I am adaptable to your parenting style as I have worked with very diverse families and programs. I was the primary care provider at a small children's home, ages infant to 13, called ChildLife in Mae Sai, Thailand for 2 months in 2011. I also taught english and provided art classes for the kids there. Much of my work Read more was teaching the children conflict resolution skills. I went on to New York where I began volunteering with I Have A Dream Foundation in Harlem where I assisted in an after school program in Fall 2013 for ages 5-9. I learned the difficulties of keeping the attention of this wild spirited age. There is nothing more inspiring than watching children figure it out on their own! In Spring 2013, I worked at Spotlight, a program funded by the International Rescue Committee in Staten Island. We promoted literacy through performance art for middle school kids. I must confess I have a tenderness for this age and am currently leading a girls empowerment group for middle schoolers in the Lower East Side. Additionally, I interned at the Mayors Office to Combat Domestic Violence with their Healthy Relationship Training Academy for all ages, but mostly teenagers. I assisted in redesigning and updating the curriculum for this program. Through my work at Spotlight and the Mayor's Office I uncovered and refined my skill and passion for designing educational materials that help youth seek self identity through exploration, conversation and expression. I have worked with youth of all ages and backgrounds.
