Meet Maddy

• Comfortable with pets

I started babysitting 10 years ago after taking the American Red Cross Babysitting Training program. In these ten years I have cared for children ranging from infants to teens, one child to six children, and for a few hours to multiple days including over-nights. I love playing and spending quality time with just a few children, but I also love the excitement and energy of big families. Most of my experience is with families of four, five, and six children. I believe that caring for these large families has really development my skills in providing the kids with a fun and enjoyable experience while maintaining control, instilling a safe environment, and employing rules of the home and parents. My past work as a care taker has included: cooking, bedtime, bath time, and light housekeeping. In addition to caring for small children, I also worked as a Resident Assistant at Point Read more Park University which I recently graduated from. In this position I led and mentored a group of 40 students through their first year of college. Here I developed skills in mediating conflicts, acting in emergency situations, and comforting and advising struggling students. I feel that the experience and skills I gained from being an RA apply tremendously to my babysitting. I also worked in the Kids Church at Northway Community Church in the preschool room. I pride myself to be a caretaker that is active! When I am babysitting I hate having the kids sit in front of the TV all day. Instead, I like to do crafts, go to the park, play games, run through the water sprinklers and most importantly play make-believe. I love getting children’s imaginations going: playing dress up, house, building forts, hide-and-seek, and more! If you ask any of the families who have previously worked with me (I can provide references upon request), the kids beg to have me come back to babysit! This is what I love: building connections and relationships with the kids and their families. I think that babysitters, especially frequent ones, are an important part of a child’s development and happiness. I still stop by to visit families I used to babysit for when I am back in my hometown to catch-up and play! I feel I have a lasting connection to many of the children I have cared for and their parents. I have recently moved to New York City to pursue a career as a theater performer. I am excited to be in this city and look forward to meeting some amazing families!
