Hello! My name is Gussie, and I am a rising senior at Amherst College with lots of experience in child care, babysitting, full-time nannying, early developmental education, mentoring, and tutoring. I am very excited by getting to introduce young children to new ideas, supporting their exploration, and helping them grow. I have nannied up between one and three children of ages 3 to 6 for full-time weeks in addition to scattered babysitting. For over five years, I taught kung fu and lion dance to children aged 4 to 12. I am able to assist with school work from my varied teaching experience: six years of volunteerwork at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History educational summer camps (teaching 4-5 and 6-8 age groups) and tutoring children in literacy with Reader to Reader, Inc. I am fluent in Spanish and have advanced French and have performed language tutoring. My multiple roles at Read more children’s museums include an education internship at the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum. In my academic study, I have spent over 500 hours researching picture books and analyzing child agency when reading, so all of my work with children applies and centers multidisciplinary study of young people’s sense of autonomy. I love directly engaging kids in enriching storytimes, imaginative play, and creative activities. I am available to do regular nannying, language or literacy tutoring, or babysitting on all workday afternoons and evenings.
