My first babysitting job was at the mere age of 12, taking care of 3 year-old twins and a 5 year-old. After that, I'm confident there isn't much I can't handle! I've always enjoyed being around children, and spent most of my adolescence and young adulthood babysitting. I also spent several summers as a camp counselor at Miss Cindy's Neighborhood Nursery School in Newburgh, and during my senior year, I volunteered some of my time at the Plattekill Public Library aiding young children in bettering their reading skills. Since graduating from Wallkill Senior High School with a Regents diploma, I continued with child care and started taking some classes at UCCC towards a degree in early childhood education. Eventually, I decided to take a break from school to get a full time job and save money. For the past year and a half, I've been a full time Direct Support Read more Professional at Crystal Run Village; a non profit organization that is responsible for the care of intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals in group home settings. My responsibilities include: -transportation (taking individuals to doctors appointments, on outings in the community, etc.) -giving medication -cooking -cleaning/laundry -assisting with personal hygiene -computer and office work -and just generally being responsible for the well being of others. Though far from easy, I have very much enjoyed serving this population and forming unique bonds with all of the residents I work with! In short, I've always enjoyed working directly with people, but lately have been greatly missing working with children. There's just something about kids that brings out my inner quirkiness and creativity! I play a bit of piano, ukulele, and sing, and am very much a fan of arts and crafts! I think creativity is a very important part of childhood (especially now that it's playing less of a role in schools with the implementation of common core). I am also a firm believer in the importance of reading, and it's not always an easy job getting children interested in books with the amount of technology they're introduced to at such an early age! Lastly, I'd like to share with you that on top of my previous child care work, I am step mother to an amazing 5 year old girl and have been taking care of her since she was a baby. If that's not experience, I don't know what is! Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me, and I look forward to working with you!
