I am the parent of 3 teenagers and feel I have the experience to do this job. Parenting = rewards + challenges. There is not a master manual on how to care for small children on a daily basis. Every child is different so what works for one may not for another. You have to work hard to assist children in becoming well rounded individuals. Children must have a structured environment where they feel loved, have fun, and provide consistency. After graduating from college & having a career, I decided to stay at home with my young children. This was a difficult decision for me but made the most sense for our family because my husband traveled for his job being gone for long periods of time. Luckily, I was able to do this. I was nervous about the lack of interaction my kids would have if they did not Read more attend childcare as a infant or toddler. It was my mission to keep them busy and not sit in front of the television. A little down time is always good but not for long periods of time:) They attended classes at the rec center, play groups, visited to the zoo, museum center, etc. Lots of time was spent at parks exploring nature and taking in surroundings. As they started school, they were involved in many activities including dance classes, scouts, sports, etc. So they never lacked interaction with others. But they also had the consistent environment at our house to learn and grow with specific routines. Personally, I have coached sports, volunteered for PTO, sat on various organizational boards for youth, was a scout leader, etc. I had to be certified in CPR, etc. to do this. I have also watched kids throughout the years for periods of time (expats). The past 3-4 years my job changed a little. First, I was the taxi driver which is a good thing:) My kids have been involved with many activities and able to participate because of the flexibility with transportation. Secondly, I play the role as chef. Older kids love to consume food when it is available. Their friends seem to think so too because usually I have a few extras at the table. So why this job? Well, my house is kind of quiet these days. My oldest is away at college. The other two are in their remaining years of high school with one being able to drive. My routine has changed. Being a nanny would allow me to generate income but more importantly allow me to assist a family with shaping their children's minds and establish lifelong habits by providing consistency during the daytime.
