I am a retired teacher with 35 years of experience. I hold a Master's Degree in Education and 12 hours beyond that as a Reading Specialist. I have taught in many systems including University School in Shaker Heights(where my son was a "lifer") - I was there over 20 years, and I taught 3rd and 4th grade and was a reading specialist in grades 5-8. I have also taught in Euclid, Columbus, (Ohio), East Cleveland, and at Hebrew Academy in the General Studies Dept. I have devoted my whole life to children! I baby sat as a teen, tutored younger kids while I was in middle school, volunteered in various summer programs for children as a high-schooler, and studied education at Lynchburg College in Virginia. As an adult I have volunteered at Providence House, rocked babies in the new-born nursery at the old Mt. Sinai Hospital, and started a summer Read more reading program for the children at Laura's Home (a shelter for homeless moms and their children). In the 80's I was the director of the Sunday School program at Christ Episcopal Church in Shaker Heights. After I retired, I worked in a day care center near my home in Sagamore Hills. Because the hourly rate was low, I signed on with two nanny services, one in Beachwood and one in Hudson. I have worked for a total of 6 families,and I found the "perfect" job with a little boy in Pepper Pike. I have been with him for 6 years, since he was 2. His parents are divorced and I work for the dad, but only every other week. He is with his mother on the opposite weeks. I don't start there until 3:30 or so - I need to get him off of the bus at 4-4:15. My husband and I enjoy riding our bicycles on the Towpath of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park near our home. We swim in our development's pool (both inside in the winter and outside in the summer), and I love to read as well as craft scrapbooks and greeting cards in my lower level studio.
