My work with children has varied over the years. In the past I spent time babysitting between a few close families as more of a side job. I spent several years in high end kitchens training to create some of the best dishes in the valley. Fine dining has allowed me to develop a serious passion for quality foods, centralizing around local, simple ingredients. I’ve spent the last school year working at The Medford Montessori School with 4th and 5th graders in an educational cooking program. The focus of Montessori is to give children the room and tools to become independent. This experience opened my eyes to the capabilities of young children when given a suitable environment. Throughout this summer I have been working with 15-25 children each week, ages 4-10, at our Montessori inspired Farm Camp. A typical day consists of a long walk around the farm, a hands on class where the children learn to bake or create a cold snack all by themselves, a craft, and guided free play with intermittent group games. While I have great appreciation for the excitement of a large group, my recent desire is to be able to routinely build upon a relationship with a few children from one family. My core beliefs are a combination of that of Montessori and Waldorf education, with my own personal emphasis on nature. I greatly enjoy spending time outside, with animals, and in the kitchen.
